It was a picture perfect day for our 1st annual, Shop with a Cop Invitational. Sheriff Jeff Johnson joined us on Saturday morning to say a few words of appreciation on behalf of the Sheriff's Office before officially starting the tournament.
Fifty two players were in the field for the four person, scramble being played from exclusively the red tees for all players. The winning team of Mike Hegeman, Mike Fuentes, Steve Honn, and Debbie Reczek won the event shooting an impressive 13 under par score to win by one stroke over the team of Herb Buck, Karen Mathes, Glen Bartlett, and Doug Mason.
Between entry fees, the 50/50 raffle, and the coverall bingo game at the season ending banquet, the CGA was able to net over $2,100 towards our fundraising goal.
Congratulations to our FedEx Cup Champion and player of the year, John Perry. John started the playoff at -5 and shot a very consistent net +1 to come in at -4, five shots better than a trio of golfers who came in T2 at +1. For winning the FedEx Cup John wins $350, last year’s defending champion Brett Snyder takes home $200 for 2nd place, Mike Laney wins 3rd place money of $150, and Jay Mathes wins 4th place prize money of $100.
This caps off an incredibly consistent and productive season for John. Not only did John play in every event this season, more impressive is the fact that he placed and earned points in every single event he played in.
Congratulations again John on a very impressive season.
Congratulations to Chuck Singleton for winning our final major of the season, THE Open championship with a score of +5. Chuck earned $120 for his win and more importantly 14 FedEx Cup points securing his place in the playoff on October 21st. Also congratulations go out to our other flight winners: Brett Snyder +3, Keith Morris +2, Jeff Eaton -1, and Rob Schultz +1.

Congratulations to CGA member Lloyd Burke for his hole on one on Chestatee's hole number 7. Lloyd scored his ace with a 7 iron from the white tees which were playing at 150 yards.
That is our second hole in one of the season and it pays Lloyd $710. We still have one more payout in the bank, who's next up?!?
Congratulations to our 2023 CGA Match Play Champion, Kelvin Brents. Kelvin captured the WGC final by holding off Rob Schultz with a 1up victory on the 18th hole Thursday, August 31st. The match was even after 8 holes and Kelvin took a 1up lead to the tee box at 10 which he quickly stretched to 3 after 13. Rob came roaring back with 3 straight wins to even the match after 16 and they halved the 17th to set up the dramatic 18th hole finish. Congratulations Kelvin and Rob on an exciting final and a well played Match Play tournament.
Congratulations to Todd Nizialek for winning the US Open with a score of +6 just edging out Brian Caldwell for the overall Championship. Also congratulations go out to our other flight winners: Mike Laney, Damon Gibbs, Chuck Singleton, Joe Halstead, John Perry, and Brian Caldwell.
Well that’s a wrap on the 2023 Member/Member championship. Congratulations to Brett Snyder and John Rennell who won the overall team championship with a score of 18 under after the two day competition. Flight winners win $260 per team and the second place team in each flight received $140. In addition to their cash winnings, Brett and John have a grand prize choice of a Titleist stand bag or a Ping cart bag and we’ll have those monogrammed on the front ball pocket with the tournament and their names.
Other flight winners were Damon Gibbs and Scott Morgan at -16, Tim Perry and Mike Hegeman at -11, and Rob Schultz and Brian Caldwell at -8. FedEx Cup points are awarded as follows: Overall winning team 12 pts, Flight winners 10 pts, second place 8 pts, and third place teams receive 6 pts. All participants receive 2p pts. We will have the points standings updated in the next day or two and will communicate a link out to everyone.
So what does marking off 24 numbers win you in a CGA Bingo Night? A cool $1,000 went to this young lady (who says you have to be a senior citizen to enjoy bingo?!) who was our grand prize winner for the evening. Five other players won $200 in our normal bingo games and one lucky guest walked away with over $400 in our 50/50 raffle.
With a crowd of approximately 100 in attendance we raised over $2,500 to seed our Shop with a Cop annual fundraiser from bingo, raffle, and shirt sales while still awarding over $2,400 in cash and prizes.
Watch for a "Save the Date" for this fall as we look to duplicate the fun and prizes!
Congratulations to Rob Schultz for winning the PGA Championship with a score of +11 to his quota.
Prize and points winners for each flight were:
Our next tournament will be our premier event of the season; The Players - Member/Member on Friday & Saturday, July 14th & 15th. Tee gifts, prizes, raffles, increased tournament awards purse for winners and a post tournament dinner and social.
Our next Stableford Major tournament will resume with the U.S. Open on Saturday, August 12th.
Congratulations to Jeff Hardesty for his Hole-in-One on Friday, May 12th while playing in the Friday Shootout (the longest-running, cash-paid, Friday afternoon sporting event in Dawson County.).
The details of the event as told to this reporter by Jeff himself, "6 iron from 160ish into a gentle zephyr. High, majestic fade that landed softly 7 feet left of the pin and rolled in like a putt." As a result of his Hole-in-One, and being a current member of the CGA Hole-in-One Club (H1C), Jeff receives $700 for his "majestic shot".
As a reminder to how the H1C works, it pays for any verified ace scored while playing at Chestatee during the calendar year. The entry fee is $30 for the H1C and it covers winning payouts for 3 Holes-in-One during the season. Once the third Hole-in-One is recorded during the season, then everybody re-antes another $30.
CONGRATULATIONS CZAR!
THE REACTION OF MAN WHO JUST WON $700
"Fore please. Now driving, The Masters." The first of the CGA's four individual tournaments for 2023 was held on Saturday, May 6th and while the blooming azaleas and pimento cheese sandwiches weren't readily available, there were plenty of masterful performances to be found.
Congratulations to our overall event champion, Selwyn Glanzer. Selwyn who was +8 over his quota, shooting 74 on the day, nudged out runner-up Steve Hill who came in with a score of +7.
Prize and points winners for each flight were:

Under sunny skies and soggy, cart path only conditions the 2023 CGA tournament season officially started with the Waste Management - Putt Pirate Classic. The field was comprised of 11 teams competing in a 4-man team shamble format. Payouts and Player of the Year points were awarded to the top four finishing teams. The winners were:
Thanks to all who participated in the tournament and came out to the Scoring Social for the final iteration of the "Putt Pirate". We're retiring the name but not the format for next year.
